Executive Committee with Association President Zena Coles at the District Rally 29 September 2016
Thursday 29th September dawned bright & sunny but was more than a little windy as we approached the Ramada Plaza Hotel Southport. This was the venue for our District Rally to meet the President of the Association of inner Wheel Clubs of GB & I Zena Coles.
Tea, coffee & biscuits were available on arrival which was warmly welcomed by members who had set out on their journey early that morning. There was soon a buzz of chatter as friends found each other and caught up with personal and Inner Wheel news.
President Zena together with DC Carol and MOC Sandra greeted everyone as they entered the dining room.
When we were all seated DC Carol gave the official welcome and introduced her top table, guests and past DC’s. The friendship candle was lit by Association President Zena followed by apologies and roll call of Clubs read by District Sec. Katharine. President Maureen Fearn of the host club Southport welcomed us with great pride to Southport and hoped that we would enjoy the day. Grace was said in Welsh by PDC Ann James and in English by IPDC Kay Kellaway.
As a change from the normal pattern greetings were brought during lunch in between courses from Moira Beswick Chairman of District 5, Marion Curtis IPC of District 15 and Molly Youd Governor of Rotary District 1180. After the Loyal Toast proposed by DC Carol and a comfort break, we settled down to enjoy President Zena’s address.
President Zena soon gained our attention by quoting from Winnie the Pooh she also shared with us the reason for her choice of charity “Beat” which was most poignant. We are indeed fortunate to have President Zena at our helm this year steering us in Inner Wheel ways with much fun, friendship and laughter to help us along.
Sandra Morris gave the vote of thanks and wished President Zena a great and happy year. DC Carol then gave her closing remarks and thanks to all for attending. There were special thanks for the Master of Ceremonies Dorothy Lee-Ogden who ensured the very smooth running of the day – well done Dorothy.
The Rally was closed with the extinguishing of the Friendship Candle by Biddy Hepper and we all set off on our journeys home with many happy memories to take with us and looking forward to the next time we meet.
